A visit from a Marine Biologist!

We were thrilled to welcome Kady's aunt, Kimberley Cooper, to our school this morning. Kimberley works as a marine biologist in Edinburgh. She spoke to the class about her work, her love of the oceans & about her huge fascination with sharks - an interest sparked first by watching the movie 'Jaws'!

Kimberley also spoke passionately about how we all must take responsibility to look after our oceans by not littering. She also told us about the danger of plastics & micro plastics to our marine life.

A huge thank you to Kimberley for visiting us today.

Working as Scientists with Sinead Douglas!

We were absolutely delighted to welcome Hannah's mum, Sinead to our school today. Sinead is a scientist & lecturer in Maynooth College!

After discussing with the class the nature of her work, she told the class all about DNA, the building blocks of life.

Then all the class worked as scientists extracting the DNA from bananas...!

Many thanks to Mrs.Douglas for visiting us today. The children learned so much this morning & thoroughly enjoyed discovering what's involved in the work of a biologist.

See the photos of us below as we worked through the experiment.
