'' The Dreaded War'' by Isabella Chambers

To mark the 150th anniversary of W.B Yeats' birth, we learned one of his poems by heart, ''An Irish Airman forsees his death'' We used this poem as inspiration for our own poems based on the theme of war.
Here is my poem. ''The Dreaded War''

My heart used to go out
to those in the war
but it doesn't
no, not anymore.

I am one of them now
in this war I fight
in the darkness
and in the light.

Bullets flying everywhere
Bombs being thrown in the air.

Men falling to the ground
shot in the heart
or in the head
the only shelter, a broken cart.

I hope that I can last
to the very end
before the war
drives me round the bend.

COMPETITION WINNER!

Well done to Mia Chambers who won an art competition in our school ran by transition students from Scoil Mhuire secondary school. The competition was to mark the two hundred year anniversary of The Battle of Waterloo.
